Project challenge: test bay upgradeWhen M&C in Cleveland moved to their new premises they decided to upgrade their electrical motor test environment to comply to industrial standards.
The requirement was for a 630Kw AC test bed for 0-1000V AC supply and a 700Kw dual directional test bed for DC / AC supply. The solution needed to measure 16 PT100 channels and 16 Thermocouple channels, as well as Coolant Flow through the motor under test. Most importantly, the electrical motor efficiency needed to be determined on the test bed so all measurement had to have a combined error of less than 0.2%. |
WE NEEDED TO UPGRADE OUR ELECTRICAL MOTOR TEST BAY TO INDUSTRY STANDARDS

JAD solution
JAD Systems implemented a system which used Infratek power analysers, National Instruments fieldpoint hardware as well as Schenck LSG2010 dyno/controllers in constant speed or constant torque mode. All signals were integrated into a custom version of JAD X-Tract software.
JAD Systems used LEM hall effect sensors for the DC/AC supply and standard class 0.1 CT VT sets for the AC supply. Jannie Du Preez (JAD Systems): "What made this installation interesting is that for the electrical supply to function to spec we had to generate a clean supply via a 1MVA gen set. The test bed is now industry-standard and works very efficiently" |
